Excellent way of thinking. We carry guns, you gonna do that too? We are provided with extra driver training courses, what have you done?

It's called exemptions under law, but I am sure we have had this discussion before.

Steve,

Not exactly the kind of training walks is talking about. Police do driver training as Police Officers that allow them to drive under priority as safe as they can.

Any old harry can go race a drag or race car if they wish, completely differant to Policing.

As Walks said, Police have excemtions under law, they dont always need lights and sirens.

From the Road Traffic Code 2000

280. Exemption for drivers of emergency vehicles (police officers)
(1) A provision of these regulations does not apply to the driver of an emergency vehicle being used for official duties by a police officer if ¾

(a) in the circumstances ¾

(i) the driver is taking reasonable care; and

(ii) it is reasonable that the provision should not apply;

and

(b) the vehicle is a motor vehicle that is moving and the vehicle is displaying a blue or red flashing light or sounding an alarm.

(2) Subregulation (1)(b) does not apply to the driver if, in the circumstances, it is reasonable ¾

(a) not to display the light or sound the alarm; or

(b) for the vehicle not to be fitted or equipped with a blue or red flashing light or an alarm.

So as long as its reasonable a Police officer can speed to a job if it is reasonable and justifiable.

I followed him in the right lane travelling at the same speed for about 5-6km before they turned off.
I thought it was against the law to travel in the right lane for no apparent reason...'failing to keep left' from memory..

cheers

i thought they changed it so you can drive in the right lane. its pretty stupid tho there are people out there who think that by drivin in the right lane they can drive as fast as they like
