Excellent way of thinking. We carry guns, you gonna do that too? We are provided with extra driver training courses, what have you done?Bonez wrote:Not sure exactly what they are. All I know is that there was a traffic car doing about 85km/h up Wanneroo road the other day, so I thought "well, if he can do it, so can I"
It's called exemptions under law, but I am sure we have had this discussion before.Bonez wrote: I highly doubt they were in that much of a hurry to get to a job, considering they had no lights or sirens! Road rules of their own... pfft.

Steve,
Not exactly the kind of training walks is talking about. Police do driver training as Police Officers that allow them to drive under priority as safe as they can.
Any old harry can go race a drag or race car if they wish, completely differant to Policing.
As Walks said, Police have excemtions under law, they dont always need lights and sirens.
From the Road Traffic Code 2000
280. Exemption for drivers of emergency vehicles (police officers)
(1) A provision of these regulations does not apply to the driver of an emergency vehicle being used for official duties by a police officer if ¾
(a) in the circumstances ¾
(i) the driver is taking reasonable care; and
(ii) it is reasonable that the provision should not apply;
and
(b) the vehicle is a motor vehicle that is moving and the vehicle is displaying a blue or red flashing light or sounding an alarm.
(2) Subregulation (1)(b) does not apply to the driver if, in the circumstances, it is reasonable ¾
(a) not to display the light or sound the alarm; or
(b) for the vehicle not to be fitted or equipped with a blue or red flashing light or an alarm.
So as long as its reasonable a Police officer can speed to a job if it is reasonable and justifiable.
