Spot on mate, I just had to ring the Joondalup IMU at work and it is staffed by a SGT.
They keep an eye on the VKI despatchers screen and help out where neccessary.
Call-signs north are ZM500 for Mirrabooka and NJ500 for Joondalup.
They also work with the ORS's (On Road Supervisors).
They authorise o/t extra resources where needed.

Oh ok, and on road supervisors, how come they have to go to chases and stuff? Like last night when that women got tasered, why did they need an on road supervisor?
Im pretty sure the OR super for the Victor area is VF500 cause i always hear him given advice to VKI about stuff.

ORS generally is a SGT and they generally attend all the chases and police accidents in their district/major incidents etc etc.
VF500 is the Freo IMU, but you'll find the ORS's will be in a vehicle.
Mirrabooka district use ZT104 or AZ210/211 as a rule.
