I repeatedly got this message in trying to read the offtopic thread:
"You are not authorised to read this forum."
If that is the case, than no worries, but I haven't had an issue in the past.

To stop displaying signatures, go to the User Control Panel > Board Preferences > Edit display options > Display signatures > No > Submit

That's bizarre. Only thing I can think of is to log out of the forum, clear out any relevant cookies etc, and try logging in again fresh, see how that goes...
There's no reason that I know of that you shouldn't be able to see that thread.
