Emergency Service - Western Power

Finally managed to snag a photo of a vehicle, but I don't believe these go 'firecall' Led to believe that they have another section called "Emergency Response" with these vehicles going 'firecall'

Anyone concur?

Emergency Response & Firecall are the same thing, arn't they???
I've seen them go priority 1 and race in and out of traffic.... they have the Red & white light bar on the Cab roof..

Yes sgt seedy you’re correct the LED light bar on top goes red when responding to a Priority job. And if you look closey you can see some small LED light bars on the side

The mission, if you choose to accept it, is to capture one and or video whilst under priority

But as stated yes that is an emergency response vehicle with the light bar and side LED's (and ones on the back usually)

The ones that go priority are "Emergency Response" Vehicles, NOT "Emergency Services" as per the photo

im pretty sure they can't go priority 1.... they're like a Maintenance or service unit... i have seen them on the fire ground before, backing up the emergency Western Power Vehicles...

I've also seen a Western Power Duty Manager in a stock standard Nissan Patrol with inside LED lights!, ill try and get a happy snap of it....

I would bet this vehicle does go priority, I have seen the same chassis without the light bar and side lights and just orange/amber domes only as well.

Asfar as im aware, they cant go Priority 1 as this is only for services that responde to icidents where human life is directly involved, and as they primarily assist other agencies like FESA they are seen as a specialised back up for dual response jobs.

im not sure how fast they can go, but ive seen them run red lights ect. and I know they have cameras in the vehicle to monitor their driving whilst driving under emergency conditions, possibley because they are only "1 up"

As far as emergency response Vs emergency service. as far as I can tell, they both havea set of amber lights as well as red lights with a siren. so perhaps they just changed the signage on the newer vehicles?

another thing, I wonder why do they have amber lights, why dont they just use their red lights in situations where they would use their ambers? the only reason i can think of is if the cameras are activated when the red lights come one?

The last time I spoke to one of them he wasn't a fan of the ambers. I'd say its just red tape having the appropriate amber warnings. Every time I've seen them parked at a job they always just have the ambers on, red's if they are in the middle of the road etc.

Also when I spoke to the guy the cameras were only activated when the light bar was (this was a while ago things may have changed etc).

The ambers are because there is not a shed full of these vehicles parked up waiting for life threatening emergencies.

99% of the time these guys are out doing non life threatening work which only require amber lights. If people start using red flashing lights in non life threatening situations it sort of diminishes the effect of the lights when they are required.

Hi all,

I have seen/ followed one of these Western Power vehicles under priority driving conditions, including darting in and out of traffic and through red traffic lights. It was responding to a building fire in North Perth a couple of years ago where the firies needed the power to the building cut as the fire was from an electrical fault from the ancient wiring.

Not sure what siren they were using but it sounded a bit odd...

Siren type seems to vary, I've heard both the drowning cat siren (horrible!) and exactly the same as a marked Police siren.
