Re: Those new speed camera's
As Ive found out, Passed two of these new cameras on Tonkin high way, they are a Laser speed camera rather than the older ones that operated on Ka Band.

Have you found this study?obzelite wrote:yes, put simply.written_ficton wrote:it increases them? Huh?
i've searched around and will put some more effort into finding the study, but basically a researcher fitted a system that tracked eye movement of drivers and found that newer drivers, ones who got their licence after the introduction of roadside speed cameras, spent quite a significant amount of time watching the side of the road rather than straight ahead, as opposed to a group who had held their licenses for longer and whose eyes scanned the whole road.
i cant be sure of percentages, but i recall some of the guys tested actually spent more time looking for speed cameras than looking ahead.
basically we have trained a generation to not pay attention to what's important.

Re: Those new speed camera's
I think speed cameras are useless, they dont save lives at all, simply a money grab.
they dont put them in areas where people have died, but places where people speed because the speed limit is stupidly slow.
whitfords ave just befor the wanneroo rd T-junction. you will find a camera there anyday of the week ( wich is a dual lane carriage way with 50meters of clear land atleast either side of the road , yet wanneroo rd past joondalup drive aka "death valley", you see a white cross next to every second tree, but very very very rarely do you see police or spped cameras there.
no tell me speed cameras are there to save lives and ill show you a blue dog.

You could be right but the other option might be that section of road is considered to dangerous to set up a camera on?nra555 wrote:.....yet wanneroo rd past joondalup drive aka "death valley", you see a white cross next to every second tree, but very very very rarely do you see police or spped cameras there. ...
This is just my opinion, but I figure speed cameras are here to stay, and regardless of whether you or I think they are for revenue raising or a safety measure, if we get done it means we broke the law. Kinda end of story.

It's an optional tax - speed and you pay... don't speed and you don't pay. Simple really. It's your choice.

That's odd, they don't grab money from me... They must be selective enough to only grab money from people who exceed the speed limit...nra555 wrote:I think speed cameras are useless, they dont save lives at all, simply a money grab.

Re: Those new speed camera's
Frankly, the whole speed camera life saving vs revenue raising, speed and speeding thing suffers from extreme views on both sides of the debate. Everyone has an opinion and there is a great deal of vested interest involved. Like most debates the real truth is probably sitting undiscovered somewhere in the middle.
Let's all agree to disagree on this one unless you have credible, linkable study you can point us to which gets a good conversation going.

This study will be interesting, especially when Obz provides the information

You'd only be looking for speed cameras if you knew you were breaking the law by speeding. If you weren't speeding you wouldn't be looking for them. I know I don't spend my time looking for them - I concentrate on the road ahead and behind.

once again, this boils down to each individual.singkenten wrote:... well over 60% of coppers don't believe in speed cameras and most would prefer they weren't there...
We are still awaiting obzelite link to the statement that stipulates speed cameras are here for revenue raising. Same as people think Parking Fines are revenue raising, which it isn't, but most people think that because they received an infringement and do not understand WHY they got one.
Let's wait until obzelite provides us with that information we seek.
