Hi all,
After riding the train to Mandurah today the transit security guards used some green gizmo to check our smartriders.
Any idea how they work? Is the tag on status stored on the card, or does the card reader connect to the network to check if the card has tagged on?
Cheers,

The status of the smartrider card is stored on the card

When you 'Tag' on at a station it's logged and stored in the card. So when MSS security come and check your card, it tells the officers if you have tagged on at the certain station.
I've closed the door!

Ahh rightio.. thanks.
I guess the data is encrypted, so u cannot read or write it yourself if you get a suitable RFID card reader?

Re: Ticket Checking devices
Here is what the ticket checkers see when they are looking at your smartrider
1st Line - If tagged on or off, plus whether a Bus or train tag and bus route number
2nd Line - Time and Date of last tag
3rd Line - Current Balance
4th line - Type of care (Student, Standard, Staff, Tertiary, Seniors etc)
Underneith is a Green and Red LED which gives a quick visual indication of the status of the card without having to read the screen.
Previous history of the card can also be viewed by the reader devise. The card can tell you what zone a tag was made on by doesn't give specific information at stations or bus stop numbers

Re: Ticket Checking devices
hehe..thats is probably the most interesting photo ive seen on the site in ages. I find it cool to see things that we don't normally get to see, no matter how 'unexciting' they may be. Cheers for posting
