Do you mind saying where you bought from? I've dealt with Strictly Ham and they were great (next day delivery close to Christmas!) so I hope it wasn't them...Tyranus wrote: I don't think I'd have enough faith to buy from there again.

@Fastlane: Nobody I've been able to find. Meg and I also imported our X-50 and Meg imported something similar to Tyranus's's's
Oh well, something you have to deal with living in the most isolated capital city on the planet (and the greatest!) This is why I tried to organise anybody that wanted to buy from over east to get together and save on shipping.

Re: Mobile setup
Is that the 2m/70cm antenna, Meg? If so, it's the one I have on my Falcon, and I'm very happy with it (I have the "clone" variety, not the Diamond branded one). The only slight niggle I have, which I was talking to Fastlane about today, is that at highway speeds (100-110km/hr), I get a very slight bend in it.meg wrote:...but with the Diamond SG7200 antenna I got he emphatically said not to mount it on the bullbar but to put it on the bonnet. He said there's too much vibration on the bullbar (for the Diamond at any rate) and the warranty would be voided if that was where it was mounted.
Fortunately the 7200 isn't too long - haven't had any problems with car parks etc. And it works well!
I was advised when I was considering getting an antenna for the car to go with the next size down, so I didn't have that bending problem, but as luck would have it, the supplier was out of stock when I rang, which is why I ended up with the one I did. The bend's only slight though, and I've straightened it once already without any dire consequences

Re: Mobile setup
That's the one! And I got the clone for Simon as I couldn't get a Diamond one at the time - noone had stock! We've done 100km/h down Roe Hwy and it's pretty stable, though a bit of a bend perhaps. Still pretty happy with it though.Zebedee wrote: Is that the 2m/70cm antenna, Meg? I considered the 7500, but they were out of stock at the time, and I'm glad I chose the 7200 now, a little less height is good for some things.

Fastlane, when I'd phoned them asking about it, the guy told me he would call me back very soon with an answer. I phoned at about 1pm here, at about 2.30 I started phoning again to find out what was going on. I would have been happy if he'd found it after 5 minutes and called me to apologise and saying he was about to close up shop and post it for me. Instead I tried calling another 3 or 4 times and landed up emailing him. I got my reply this morning when I got back from BFS.

Re: Mobile setup
I got it from Andrews - they sell them as "Andrews" brand but say in the description that they are like product x from another manufacturer...Fastlane wrote: Where are the clone ones from, meg? Still under the same 'name' or product code?

And congrats on passing today - sorry I didn't realise that they weren't doing the practical assessment differently to when I did it (I did wonder...)

Has anyone made use of one of these before?? http://www.rfparts.com/diamond/k400.html
Enough space for a SO-259 mount for a Super Gainer? Actually a point there.. are the Super Gainers ground-independent?

Yep. Heard VK6FLEA and VK6FAIL a couple of days ago. The last one made me laugh. I met Peter at HARG who passed the exam today. Re: Mobile setup
Hi All,
I have had a few of these clone antennas and generally they last about 3-4 months then go high SWR. Well at least thats what happened to mine.
Since then i have been running the Diamond SG-7900. Works well, although at 100k she gets a fair bit of a bend due to wind loading.
On another note i should be in a position to start stocking the mobile and base antennas shortly along with ICOM radios. Now i just stock commercial gear including coax and connectors but will be moving into amateur gear at the start of March.
