Lesmurdie :)

Which hopefully will give enough height so that it covers the majority of Perth.

Ahhh, so I was correct in hearing something over the past few weeks on and off... Mystery is now solved! Until there is some voice on it I think I will take it off loop in the scanner!

Just curious why the decision was made to make the beacon 3W? If it's for the use of visiting hams I thought it would benefit from a large as possible range and 30 or 100W would be better for it.

Good question, and I'm not 100% sure on the answer but I think it's got something to do with the amount of heat the radio generates if the output power is dialled up any higher :)

Cool! It's about half strength at my QTH in Beechboro but pretty clear. There is a bit of a whine in the audio, but that could be due to a power supply issue. The beacon is just on a test bench at the moment making sure that everything works. A fan has been added to the back and the power's up now to just over 5W and it's running fairly cool.

It'll get boring very quickly though - there's only one audio file in the playlist ... the WIA news from last weekend. Everything's still very experimental at this stage...

It's not a huge signal here, and quite a bit of noise, but perfectly understandable - great idea Zebedee and well done!

I dialled RIB up at lunchtime and there was only a carrier and ident (S4 in Swanbourne). Must have gone voice soon after. Also S4 in Ballajura. Also has the whistle and a bit of static. Is it at Mazenod yet?
