Fat chance it being replaced soon. Though you are right that it is not a good thing that the truck broke down on the way to an incident. Just highlights the fact that the fleet is very old and run down with only a couple of trucks been replaced so far. Belmont I see this week got a new pump. But there are a lot of pumps before wangara's that need replacing and yes it has seen alot of action but there are stations such as armadale, midland, malaga and rockingham that are busier who have older trucks and they are mediums. All the heavy pumps need replacing first. It is embarrassing seeing WA trucks on the news compared to the eastern states.

And it wouldn't surprise me if that's why they seem to slightly OVER commit resources initially, for this very reason. At least that's my layman's impression anyway ;)

Z, the response to an incident is base on a risk assessment essentially, which is set out in SOPs. Depending on the information reporting the incident a certain response level is made.
For small fires or other emergencies, then only one appliance need be responded. For any incident that could involve the use of Breathing Apparatus, then at least 2 appliances are responded, to meet minimum crew levels on scene - backup/rescue crews need to be at the ready.
I believe I have posted details on the various alarm levels, and the automatic response.
The response does not take into consideration vehicles breaking down en route, and there are further SOPs around actions to take should an appliance be unable to continue due to breakdown, accident, or other incidents.

Cool, thanks for that info. I did wonder whether this was factored into the initial response or not, but from what you've said it appears that it isn't. However, there are procedures in place to deal with it when it does happen...
