"The Okka" Comms Support Unit truck; SES Metro ICV

Post by Tyranus »

This truck is used by the Comms Support Unit, and is affectionately known as "The Okka" it has an array of radio's inside including a mobile repeater. It is often used at searches, and can be called on during the fire season to setup VHF repeaters. Hence both Red and Blues.

A couple of photo's of the Metro ICV. SES ICV's are generally set per region. This will usually turn out to searches or other large scale incidents with SES involvement.

I'd say it is. They have one on the Darling Range ICV too (thats the Mundaring shire VFRS comms group). The vehicles are often used as a central rallying point for assigning units to areas, sign-in to fire ground etc - it's _really_ good to have some shade to stand in at those points!

How many radio workstations do you fit in that Tyranus? There were (casts mind back) 3 (not including the on in the cab) plus the battle board in the Darling Range vehicle which is a converted coaster bus.

It's a annexe similar to found on caravans. The picture is the Midwest ICV with annexe in place

certainly is although the one on the ICV here isn't as elaborate as that, check out any photo's of the fire ICV's and it's just an awning that comes out a metre to provide shade and rain protection.
