We Have the New system in our trucks now and it is So much Clearer it is def worth it the canning Mills one was only turned on on Monday adn we havent had the chance to do much of a range terst but a cpl of our old Black spots have been clear so fingers crossed its a good thing
The change was made to improve interoperability - FESA appliances etc can link with things like boats using Marine radio. The option is there for SJA to come on board if they wish. Appliances now have access to Emergency channels A & B on UHF.
SJA already have access to ESA and ESB ,they are the license holders.
Might give the SES some advantage as well with marine and general FESA interoperability.
With the old Tait T-2020s operating on VHF mid band there was no access to Em Ch A&B. The new Tait TM-8260s VFRS Brigades have that access plus access to the rest of the UHF channels. That means we can chat more easily with SES, WAPOL etc. And yes, VMRS now can do beach searches with non-VMRS boats etc.

There was also a limit to the number of frequencies available on VHF Mid-Band. Was quite a bit of frequency reuse going on, which resulted in interference when the atmospheric conditions were right..
