OK folks,
After some discussion and deliberation, the focus of this thread is being re-defined. The original post, opening the thread stated:
For those who may miss their daily dose of general news, there's a number of sites around you can use, some of which offer a daily email service, or an RSS feed:

OK folks,
After some discussion and deliberation, the focus of this thread is being re-defined. The original post, opening the thread stated:
The opening post has now been edited to read:This thread is for news articles that members think are of interest to the WARSUG community.
Ideally they'll have something to do with radiocommunications, or one of the other topic areas of the site (WAPOL, FESA, SJA, etc) -- but that's not a strict requirement. Sometimes there's other subjects that might not be about radios but are still topical. Use your own judgement as to whether you think your fellow scanner enthusiasts will find the news article interesting.
I trust this will return the focus back to the purpose of the site, which is primarily radio scanning and other radio applications. This thread is for news articles that members think are of interest to the WARSUG community.
News articles are expected to have something to do with radiocommunications, or one of the other topic areas of the site (WAPOL, FESA, SJA, etc) unless there's an exceptional reason.
The main criteria to use when deciding whether the news should be posted are:
1) Is the news directly related to radio scanning, radio communications, or an associated activity?
2) Is the news directly related to one of the major topic areas of this site (e.g. WA Police, Ambulance services, CB Radio, Fire services, etc.)
3) Is the news likely to be of interest to the majority of forum readers?
If the item fits those three criteria, then please go ahead and post. However it has been decided that "general interest" stories are no longer suitable for posting - people are perfectly capable of finding their own news if they wish.

DNA identifies alleged rapist from 1987 attack
WEST Australian police have used DNA technology to identify a man who allegedly raped a woman in her Kalgoorlie home 21 years ago.
I'm particularly happy with this bit of the article:

oh don't get me wrong I'd prefer he was caught soon after committing the crime, but better he's caught now than not at all. As more people are added to the DNA database so people will be caught and arrested quicker! It will at least bring a closure of sorts to the woman that was raped.

I filmed this story for the ABCTV News last Monday night. The alleged offender is currently in custody in another state for serious offences commited after he fled WA, subsequent to the above mentioned attack. The victim is also pleased that the WA Police have followed up this matter, with positive result, after so much time.Tyranus wrote:DNA identifies alleged rapist from 1987 attack
