Scanners and Cordless Phone Interference

Post by radiohead »

I was just wondering if anyone has experienced any problems with Cordless Phones interfering with their scanners. We recently got a new cordless phone, it's a 2.4GHz digital Uniden.
It was ok until someone pressed the channel key then I could hear a choppy fuzzy sound on certain channels on my scanner and then conversation from the phone was coming thru very lightly over my pre-tuned scanner channels!
I've read the phone manual and all it says is it may interfere with other household appliances such as microwaves etc that operate on a similar frequency.
It's annoying me because it cuts over other channels I want to listen to when someones on the phone let alone the fact anyone could be listening to the phone conversation!
Any help appreciated :)

If it's a 2.4ghz digital then nobody can listen to your conversation on a scanner. What you are hearing is obviously some kind of bleed through, hell knows why it's coming through on your scanner because it should be encrypted from the base station to the handset.

I've never heard of a phone causing interference to a scanner, but anything could happen I guess.

Actually i had the same problem too, i just found i had the scanner and the phone to close together, and the scanner picked up the phone and visa versa i just presumed it would be all of the electrical gizmo's were just picking up the most dominant signals around at that time which happened to be each other :) The only problem i have now is the baby monitor picks up interefernce from the scanner, but only when its scanning...and its never done that b4.

I did think about the distance between the phone and scanner being a problem but they're not really near each other, they're at opposite sides of the house and at least 15 metres apart. It's only since the channel button was pushed on the phone that the problems began and my scanner was on at the time too so that probably didn't help.
Also it has only affected the one scanner, my newer one doesn't seem to be affected- it wasn't switched on at the time luckily.
Only other thing I can think of trying is to factory reset the problem scanner but then I'll have to reprogram all the frequencies doh!

We have a Uniden 2.4ghz digital, and the base station sits on the desk next to my scanner.

Never had a problem before at all.

On the other hand, when i'm using the microwave oven in the kitchen, the phone goes all choppy and breaks up severely.... and the two devices are not near each other.
