Since the story at that URL has changed at least once so far, here's the text as it stands now:
Gunman fear - police close off CBD
Article from: PerthNow
April 18, 2008 12:45pm

BREAKING NEWS: A SIEGE is under way at the building housing the Perth stock exchange, where a man police believe may be armed is making threats from the roof.

Tactical Response Group Police have cordoned off an area of the Perth CBD, fearing that a gunman could be on the loose.

Police spokesman Sgt Graham Clifford said officers secured an area and were searching for the man after reports of an offender with a gun at 12.20pm.

Officers have marked off The Esplanade, Barrack St and William St.

Police said the man was on the roof of the building hourins the Perth stock exchange and commonwealth parliamentary offices.

One witness at the scene said she could not access her city carpark.

"There are heaps of cops, unmarked cars and plain clothed cops - stacks of them,'' the woman told PerthNow.

"They wouldn't tell us anything, so I'm just driving around and around. I can't even get into work.''

I had a wonder though and I am quite annoyed that I didnt have my camera on me [so many exclusive pics]

Reports of road closures are false, you can walk through [except for the stockexchange]

There was one marked car GC119, the rest were unmarked, Manily VE / BF falcons

- Holden Aventura
- Toyota Hilux
- Ford [4wd type]

Many news crew cars were there.

Ford courier for Channel 9 news.

I have pics but taken on my crappy 1.3 megapixel camera phone.

Love how the media twist things around... There was no seige - just a stupid irresponsible threat by a single individual.... Who has nothing better to do than disrupt and scare people....

So much of this has circulated around the company I work for and people flocking to the windows to see...

From my advantage spot - There is no police blocking roads now as of 14:20 - Traffic is flowing like a typical Friday afternoon... The major "incident" happend at 12:20 - so don't see why the media cause such hype and panic.... :?
