If you need your license for a volunteer service, then you should be able to use their vehicles to learn, as well as receiving some instruction.

For all Career entry, fire services in this country require a valid HR license. And my comment was from a capability point of view. Likewise, Police and Ambos (career) need to pass advanced driver training and demonstrate their competence. There is a massive gap in many volunteer emergency services in this country when it comes to driver training and skill.

Excellent shot's Wes, unfortunately I'll be missing it this year, unless it's closer to midland, as I don't think last years like with the fire after would repeat itself.

I think that it is the actual museum specific logo. The other museum vehicles have the old WAFB logo. That Light Tanker has always had a different one.

It looks like the badge (LT) that was placed on all FRS vehicles for the centenary

You just beat me to it. Unfortunately the images I have on it are from my first couple of digital cameras and can't get a decent look at the logo by zooming in.

The helmet is based on the WAFB logo. Across the top is Fire & Rescue Service of WA. Just inside (below) this is WA Fire Brigades. It appears that the branches (plant not equipment :) ) come up the sides of the helmet. At the bottom is a scroll which is what was used for centenary logos.

One small point, these were not placed on all appliances, just a small selection.

edit: also, this has always carried a piece of towing equipment as you can see on the back in this shot. Have never been quite sure whether this is to tow or be towed, although I think the latter is the case. In case one of the more prestigious appliances breaks down, this can get it to a safe location.

We must of been special then. But my memory is not what it used to be so I must of though I saw them on every appliance. I didn't like them at first but it grew on you.
