Maylands stabbing on Sunday

Post by impdxn »

For those of you who heard it on the scanner... here is ZB103 and an unmarked unit that responded. I was on my way to the Maylands Academy when I passed by this, so I stopped on the way back and took pics.

I seemed to be a magnet on Sunday. While I was driving around I heard ZM102 on my scanner responding Pri 2 to a call, and then ended up seeing him pass me. Then another unmarked unit that was responding to a call I heard on the scanner and then he passed me as well. Its quite interesting hearing the sirens on the scanner in the background and then starting to hear them approach you in real life.

Then I end up going right by the Maylands stabbing which I also heard on the radio, but didn't pay attention to the actual location. I was taking pics of the various Police Stations and my last stop for the day was the Maylands Academy.

I also managed to just catch something on the scanner when I was at Maylands Academy about a person taking pictures, POI wearing a white shirt and black pants, and the complaintant believes he might have a vehicle. I then looked at myself and relized I was wearing exactly what was just describe. Wonder if someone called me in taking pics of the Police Stations or if it was just a coincident.

Edit to correct spelling

Nah, I had nothing to worry about because I wasn't doing anything illegal nor did I have any criminal intent with the photos I was taking. I was only taking pictures of the front entrance of the stations. I would have been more than happy to talk to any Officer who pulled me over and inquired into what I was doing.

I was simply just trying to see where each of the metro police stations are located, what they look like, and get a picture of each one station for my own photo archive. Similar to the Yahoo Group guys with the Police Cars. Some of the stations were actually a challenge to locate; for example the Two Rocks station was a PITA to locate.

What is the State Security Unit? And why would I get a visit from them just for taking pictures of the front of police stations?

Maylands is a super sensitive facility, like has been mentioned it's the home of TRG and the State Security Unit.

It also is where seized items are stored such as vehicles and trucks...read between the lines.

I'd personally advise any members to stay well clear of the old Academy as your interest in will almost certainly attract the attention of State Security.

Also gotta remeber taking pics of anything that isn't in the 'public eye' is against the law. Maylands is a fully enclosed facility.....as it's behind a fence.

Although your interest is of a hobby only, I think you'd have a tough time explaining it.

Me personally I wouldn't take pics of ANY Police premises/buildings/stations etc etc.

I just photograph cars that are clearly in the public eye myself.

It's just our advice take it or leave it..

cheers

Thanks for the info... didn't realize what it was now used for.

Just curious, legally what is concidered to be in the 'public eye'? I personally think considering something behind a chain link fence which can easily be seen through (unlike a solid wall) as not in the public eye is silly . But if thats the law, then thats the law.

I can appreciate that, but how is the front of a Police station not in the public eye

Thanks again :)

Public eye: is when it can be seen when it is parked in a public place. eg on a public street/roadway/carpark, in a nutshell basically anywhere that is freely accessible to the public.

I appreciate what your saying about photographing Police stations, but pre 9/11 your guaranteed to raise eye-brows taking pics of the front of Police Stations.

Hope that makes sense, one of the other members might go into more detail.

cheers

I think the SSU has its hands full looking for a certain pair of white supremacists just quietly...

I might not have communicated clearly what I was trying to say. I wasn't trying to imply taking pictures would not raise eyebrows. I was just saying that its not illegal, and that my taking of the pictures was innocent. Though a concerned citizen would not know otherwise, and thus have every right to report the incident. I've had to sit through more anti-terrorism/force protection training sessions than I care to remember, so I know all about that stuff.

The WAPOL have some pictures of their stations on their website already:
http://www.police.wa.gov.au/LocalPolice ... ?Claremont
http://www.police.wa.gov.au/LocalPolice ... sp?Subiaco

All of the North West Metropolitan District stations have pictures on the website, which are the stations I took pictures of this last weekend. Thus I don't see taking pictures of the front of the Police Stations as sensitive, especially since they post pictures themselves online.

Don't really think the issue is the Police Stations........... The big issue is Maylands Comlex only for the pure fact of who is actually out there........
