Yes they do a good job in general, because they have some sort of structure in place. Unfortunately from what i hear both on and off this site- isnt the case for alas, sounds like upper management arent even qualified paramedics lol
Im sure A**S will hate me for saying this. However you couldn't really call them a Ambulance Service in my personal opinion. This sounds awful to say. However SJA Volunteer stations were better equipped & trained. Thats just how I felt.

I was warned by a SJA individual about A**S and I should have listened. However you live and learn from your mistakes.. and move forward.!!

Also I really disagree with some wearing epaulets of ie: AO that don't reflect that level of training..
OFA is a Occupation FA
After all CERT III is a PTO
CERT 4 is a Basic Ambulance Officer and so forth..

After all if a incident happens and you are compared to a AO ie Grade III and you have not received the training to that level yet wear the tags.. You will land your self in Hot Water..

If one thing I learn't from life lessons never pretend to be something you are not. Be frank honest about your level and climb the ladder of rank by learning, qualifying and becoming competent in the field.

So many of the people I thought would change A**S have left. So obviously easy to move people on then change for the better.
thats sad to hear kyle, i mean the late Peter draper would be turning in his grave if he had known what seems to be happening according to what has been said on this site and certainly wouldnt tolerate any BS

Well its sounds like in the beginning it was a service trying to deliver a good grade of patient care.

Thats one of the reason why I am going to get some REAL training from a great provider and become a competent practicing professional.

Rather then playing the cowboy after all, when a patient crashes in the back of the Ambulances its only you and your knowledge / training & experience that will determine if that patient has a increased survival rate.

Hence the need for regulation and registration..

They didn't do a number on me at all, what they did do was move my friends on in a legal way ie: (Cutting Hours) Who were competent practicing professionals all because of a call for change. Shocking!!! . I just didn't like the way things were run. Im generally can accept a few short comings however things should be done the right way.

If they aren't correct steps should be taken to correct them and make improvements. . Not everyone is Perfect. However PFO you would have quit on the first day if you went there. I reckon if a non biased SJA Paramedic from head office was put in ALAS for one day they would have walked out, in rage.

Just my take, nothing more nothing less.

Most I think would prefer not to claim they have worked for them. I'm sure there are plenty of forum users who have made comments about A**S already.. Most prior employees prefer to just forget and make no association.

However Ambulance Conventions & Public Forums are carving the path for change. So we should see some significant improvements in standards, regulations, training and so forth. This is where people can submit there concerns and drive the changes forward for a better future.

As those that have the power to make necessary changes however are ignoring the issues care nothing for the forum opinions.

Only cool radio scanner people like us!!! :D.

The industry needs regulations and registration that stops attempts to cut corners and drop the high standards that patients deserve..
i think it would depend in which era you worked for them

From what I have heard from Herpes and Yourself it was much better back then..
it was definately more structured and although there were varying levels within the company, over the years we had alot of paramedics that came through the doors, who were snapped up by sja which was sad, but hey money talks, why is why i left or would have stayed longer.
Still it all sounds a bit weird to me, with the new vehicles and equip, they must be making some money, so why cant they afford to look after staff and keep them happy?

While at QE2 today (on a non related ambulance matter) was talking to a sja crew up on the ward waiting for a patient.

Was quite interesting that they mentioned this thread and the dodgy dealings ALAS & Medicone have had together. ALAS are still dispised for using non qualified staff for transfers (shame that peel health service just cover there eyes blindly to whats going on but i guess they are not toally informed) and medicone who seem to be punching out paramedics by the bucket load who have not had any decent clinical hours once again anyone can study and complete a test if you cant put it into practice whats the point.

I wonder which one will give first.

I know that anyone will be able to do a Cert IV course or Assoc Diploma in W.A after july and actually GET proper clinical hours with an ambulance provider and not some ride along waiting for calls and some actual decent training.
