WA POLICE CARS TAP INTO NATIONAL DATABASE
In an Australian first, all police vehicles patrolling the Perth metropolitan area now have access to the WAPOL data base through the digital in-vehicle Tasking and Dispatch Information System (TADIS), as well the data bases of every other Australian police jurisdiction through the National Search facility.
Police Commissioner Karl O’Callaghan said the final phase of the TADIS rollout across metropolitan police districts and specialist units had been completed and those officers now had access to an enormous amount of critical operational data whilst out on patrol.
“TADIS is already proving to be a tremendous success. It significantly enhances officer safety, response times and the quality of the police response, because officers have instant access to an enormous amount of important data on their in-car terminals,â€

Now correct me if I'm wrong...but...
On the news Karl states if the TADIS was in place before the Gray incident it may not have occurred. Isn't TADIS only part of the digital system and therefore only in metro?? not Karratha....

I think old carl was just trying to additionally justify the cost of the system, country cops still have the worst of the lot when it comes to communications, and the only way to stop a repeat of that incident would be eliminate single patrols and get them better comms technology.Markmywords wrote:I thought it was only metro as well.
Unless there saying the country stations will have access to the national data base.
The media didn't make it quite clear but along with TADIS today it was also about Crimtrac (national database).TADIS links in with this.woobla1 wrote:I think old carl was just trying to additionally justify the cost of the system, country cops still have the worst of the lot when it comes to communications, and the only way to stop a repeat of that incident would be eliminate single patrols and get them better comms technology.Markmywords wrote:I thought it was only metro as well.

Plus this was a heads up that now TADIS and the digital network are fully operational and it is just a matter of the big boss saying when to pull the pin on the analogue network in the metro area. It could happen any day now
For country cars they can do the check with their station on the Crimtrac database which didn't exist during the Shane GRAY incident.
Not enough time to do jobs [and subsequent name/address/vehicle checks, plus all alerts/warnings attached to each] and paperwork, let alone run all your name checks through crimtrac for everybody you are likely to run into just on the off-chance.
If only there was someone/thing that could do the whole job for you, so you didn't even have to leave the office in the first place.
