Why would an emergency vehicle travel in normal road conditions with lights and sirens...

hmmm I know a couple of the wanneroo people drive close to the speed limit etc. under firecall conditions but then they use the lights and sirens to clear the path ahead from obstructions so they're not slowing down all the time. Might take a couple of minutes longer to get to the fire, but at least they get there safely. But I don't think they'd be using Firecall conditions on route to a mop up.

If stupidity got me into this mess, why can't it get me out.

Nice meeting with you JG-103 at the Anketell Fire - my collegue and I were the first crew to start the "fire callout shift" - we also had a Mandurah Vollie AO - team with us towards the evening....

Was there for a couple of hours in the afternoon. Our LT wasn't much use on our sector, with the number of 2.4s and 3.4s there. Especially as we were pretty much on the road the whole time...
