SMPT Server

Post by Ambul8 »

I am working off a direct satellite internet connection at work, in the middle of nowhere! So not on my own ISP.

I use Westnet for ISP/email and cannot send email via the Westnet SMTP (they seem to think the satellite ISP provider is a known spamming domain). Its unlikely, as I work for a huge multinational company.

I get error "554 <email@email.com>: Recipient address rejected: Access denied". This is due to no outgoing SMTP sever.

Basically what I need is a SMTP server I can use instead of Westnet's. Does anyone know of one, or a good free/cheap SMTP mail relay server I can use (like www.smtp-server.com - but its US based, I'd prefer an Aussie company).

This sending email via web mail and not being able to keep work related or important sent items is frustrating. Along with the constant email signature copying....

Thanks

PS: hopefully i haven't left any typo's for the spelling and grammar obsessed. Disclaimer: If I have done so - it is deliberate! PMSL

You should be able to relay through Westnet.

Set your SMTP server to mailr.westnet.com.au (note the r). Enable "SMTP Authentication" and you should be able to log in to the Westnet server and relay your mail using your Westnet username and password.

Hi Ambul8,

I used to work for Westnet and vk6hgr is entirely correct.

I'm not sure which email client you are using, but you need to set the SMTP server to mailr.westnet.com.au and enable SMTP Authentication. Make sure you tick the box that says "Authenticate POP3 before sending email" (it may be worded slightly different in your email client but look for something similar).

This basically authenticates you using your username and password then allows you to use mailr to send mail outwards.

We had quite a large number of clients who used to face this problem and that always made it work. Since you are with Westnet (who pride themselves on great customer service), give them a call if you still can't get it to work and they'll run through the settings with you over the phone and make sure it can work for you!

Cheers

The last line of my support call to WN last week was "so you cant help me?" he said "no, I'm sorry", I said "thats *^&^%$%^"

Ill quote from ur email when I call today.

They never mentioned anything like that to me at all.
