Teenager killed in horrific car crash

30th October 2007, 7:00 WST

A 17-year old Balcatta teenager has died after a horrific crash last night.

The girl was in the back seat of a Holden sedan travelling along Main Street Balcatta, about 8pm, when the driver of the vehicle lost control of the car, hitting a traffic island and veering into a power pole.

The car then became airborne and landed in the front yard of a house, hitting a palm tree and a fence.

An ambulance spokesman said the girl was rushed to Royal Perth Hospital but died in transit from horrific head and chest injuries.

Two male occupants in the front of the car escaped serious injury and were taken to Sir Charles Gardiner Hospital.

Major crash officers are investigating.
How sad and frustrating must this be...[/quote]

Lowering the speed limit by 10 km/h is not going to prevent idiots like this.

I didn't suggest you said anything about lowering the limit. It has been in the news lately. Someone doing 140 km/h is still going to do 140 km/h if they are in a 100 zone, or a 90 zone...

side note... how STUPID do you have to be to be speeding at 140 on main street?! its bad enough going 60 down that road with all those median strips and traffic lights. very unfortunate for this to happen... i feel sad for the girls parents. she was only 15 =(

There should be a very public new "road toll" System

1) No. of people who have died on WA roads
2) No. of people who have died on WA roads while commiting a criminal offence (speeding, hooning, failure to stop etc.)
3) No. of people that these idiots who were driving dangerously have killed.

She was 17, as stated in the news article, though doesnt make it any less senseless

Nor did it specify what speed they were travelling 140km/h was used as an example by CI which is fine, but a few members have jumped to conclusions. Infact nowhere in there did it say the loss of control was definately due to speed, he might have hit an oily spot and yes airborn would indicate some speed but I've screeched tires when travelling at 40km/h. I'm going to wait till the final report before I say that it was the brothers fault. I do feel sorry for the family though.

Yes that's right. I wasn't suggesting they were doing 140 km/h on Main Street, nor was I suggesting that Main Street is a 100 or 90 zone. Unrelated.
