2.5 hours to go - according to the NASA site, the crew are in the launch tower getting ready to go into the orbiter.

NASA Shuttle page

NASA TV page to watch a live stream via RealPlayer or Windows Media.

The doesnt seem to be much PPE worn by some of the people transporting the large tanks. One fella had a Hawaiin shirt on for cryin out loud. No high visibility gear seen.

Probably because if there's any problems with transportidng said large tanks filled with liquid oxygen and hydrogen (phoom!) no amount of PPE is going to help you.
