Town Ward, Narrikup and Forest Hill

Post by WPXZBP »

The little Nissan LT I saw at Plantagenet Shire depot is supposedly used by the Town Ward brigade. (This is news to me as Mount Barker VFRS IS the Town Ward brigade.) It apparently is based in the ITC shed near the speedway on the Porongurup Road. Thanks to the depot supervisor who let me take these pics. (Silly me forgot to change the camera settings...)

Narrikup 2.4 and Forest Hill 3.4 were outside the depot compound awaiting servicing.

I know that Narrikup appliances were at the Porongurup fire in February and that Forest Hill was used at the Perillup fire in January. Other than that, no idea.

According to the 2005/2006 Annual Report for the Shire, new appliances should be going to various brigades. Payments are according to the following info:

2006/2007
Kendenup/Martigallup ($211 000)
Porongurup ($14 300)

2007/2008
Woogenellup ($220 000)
Denbarker ($215 000)
Porongurup ($315 000)
Forest Hill ($215 000)
Narrikup ($215 000)
South Porongurup ($100 000)

2008/2009
Middle Ward ($215 000)
Kendenup/Martigallup ($100 000)
Perillup ($215 000)
Manurup/Narpyn ($215 000)
South Porongurup ($215 000)

2009/2010
Kendenup/Martigallup ($220 000)
Rocky Gully ($215 000)
Narrikup ($215 000)
Perillup ($215 000)

2010/2011
Kendenup/Martigallup ($220 000)
Rocky Gully ($215 000)
Narrikup ($215 000)

Yep

Saw this yesterday. This vehicle has a slip-on job for Forest Hill Vineyard, west of Mount Barker. It was established as a vineyard in 1965.

Noted in a Shire of Plantagenet newsletter:

Porongurup BFS now have received a Light Tanker to go with their new 3 bay shed (to come). (Interesting to note it has regular beacons, not mini light bars so it's probably a refurbished appliance.)

Kendenup and Rocky Gully BFSs will get 2.4 Broadacre appliances.

See alot of those 'slip ons' about.. though all the ones I've seen were being used for spraying, not firefighting.

A plastic tank and hose that short isnt much good to you for fires...

Narrogin has a big old yellow fire truck, unsure what it is. I'm told if I want to use it, have to give 24 hours use to get it out of the shed, and not to use the siren as we get overtaken anyway :P

Quite possibly... the Byford crew drove it to Narrikup and donated it to the Brigade in 2003/2004 some time.
