Geraldton police are trialling the 224 rostered used by the SJA and FESA, the only difference is there doing 12hr shifts where as ambos and firies do 10hr days and 14hr nights (except comms who do 12 and 12).
Not sure how long the trial runs for but have heard many seem to like it so far.

Can you expand a bit on what a 2.2.4 roster is for those who are in the dark?ZO100_marto wrote:Geraldton police are trialling the 224 rostered used by the SJA and FESA

2 days (either 12 or 14hrs), 2 nights then 4 days off =2.2.4 obviously this doesn't equal a normal week. 76hr fortnight is how SJA works.
Some of the big advantages for the police would most likely be...
2 shift changes a day instead of 3, means less admin time waste, less OT for the bean counters, less stuff ups at comms with only 2 shifts to deal with.
And the BIG one, more police on the beat.... how....
If a station has say four cars = 8 plods x 3 shifts currently there 24 officers. 24 officers divided by 2 shifts = 12 plods.
(hope that makes sense)
Anyway not too sure how long its running in Geraldton and whether there thinking of giving it a go in Perth anywhere but will be worth keeping an eye

Hmm now I'm getting confused
I've definately been told by an officer at Gero that there's more vehicles on the road. I'll have to try to work out the 3 panel numbers thingy a bit more. (numbers of days off, etc)
Also some time ago the ambo's looked at going to 3 eight hr shifts but found it was going to be to difficult to raise the numbers required to cover that system.

Bit of a political mine field in Bunbury, but they are the only country station that have complete paramedic crews. Most other country stations (paid ones) have two paramedics together during the day and a paramedic working with a volunteer at night.dazla wrote:I was interested to learn that SJA Geraldton run vollies with Paramedics......thought they were all Paramedics like Bunbury.
I think having vollies is a good system as you get people involved in the Community and its emergency services.

Yep thats why I said "most"
Mandurah, Pinjarra, Broome, Busselton, Northam, Norseman and Collie have a paid and vollie together on day and night shifts. Gero, Kal, Albany and Port hedland have paid guys during the day and split at night. (the third day crew at Mandurah also only works certains days)
Norseman is another political nightmare from the past with only a handfull of jobs a month.
