Hydrant Boosters

Post by Tyranus »

Ok, looking in the direction of Career guys or vollies in the know really.
The big red boxes with Hydrant booster on them. How do these work? What boosts what? I.e. do you plug a pumper in and it boosts the pressure in the hydrants in the area. Or is it an already inline booster that's always operating.

Cheers in advance,

From what I understand, an appliance with a high capacity pump (eg HP, MP, CP, not HSR or LT - not a high enough rating) connects in and boosts the pressure to hydrants connected to it.

Shoot me down in flames if I'm wrong. :P

Depends on what the booster is for as well. At places where sprinklers are fitted, you can have a booster so that as you said a pump can be connected and the sprickler pressure is boosted.

At high rises and shops etc the booster is as wes said to boost the hydrant pressure ( not the ground type ) but the ones fitted on walls etc.

Most pumps with multi story high rises carry a high rise kit. Genereally varies as to what is in them but should have two lenghts as well as a branch. This allows the firies to go to the story involved and connect straight to the fitted hydrant and thats where the booster pressure is utilised, instead of dragging hose
