Restored light tanker

Post by WPXZBP »

This is my work in progress. It's not much of a restoration job but it's a start. Formerly a "Fast Attack" with Wanneroo, and then with Parkerville Bush Fire Brigade. This is how I got it in 2006. It has a Stalker pump at the rear with a hose reel plus a line of hose and branch for the driver. There is no suction on this pump. I based at a friend's farm nearby when I purchased it as there was not enough space to house it at my location.

Below is a photo from late 2006. I added a new Uniden UH-088 UHF CB and 9dB antenna, a Tait T-2020 radio for communications, first aid kit, reflective striping (the old stuff was very weather-beaten), two dry powder extinguishers, fire blanket, small tool kit, shovel and axe. After this photo was taken I added a small hose line and branch similar to what the driver has, replaced the driver-side branch, repaired the rear hose on the reel and added a rake-hoe. Oh, and the red and blue beacons? They were supplied so I decided to take a pic with them on. I put the orange ones on after taking the pic. The siren works but I have it disconnected - it sounds terrible!

The truck is based on the school where I work. The school is built on a farm property donated by the local community. I'm hoping that it will be used to help students become more fire aware, particularly as a fair proportion of the student population will be "on the land" in the local area. We also have emergency services cadets at the school - I hope they get to use it as part of their continuing education. Finally I am hoping that (heaven forbid) if we have a fire on the school grounds it will be used in its suppression.

It's a 1993 body with a 2000 back section. The red & blue beacon covers were just given to me and the licence for the Cruiser clearly states it must use amber beacons.

I've purchased 30m of 38mm hose and 12m of 64mm hose to go on the truck. This will be teamed with a 2½" Task Force Tip branch (which is on its way on a slow boat from Canada) and a 1½" (125 gpm) Akron branch. New Federal Signal "Hilighter" mini-light bars and a standpipe are on order and are due early next month.

Also added were another extinguisher, drip torch, map book and Dolphin torch.

The whole thing is now marked with fluorescent striping just like the FRS/BFS appliances here in W.A. (So the kids get the feel of a proper fire appliance and not just a trailer or ute with a water tank and pump.)

Wes, I'll be the first to admit I did wonder about this fire appliance that you had in your signature block,
Very interesting story! It looks great you've done a fantastic job with it, and I do hope it helps the local kids like you intend it to.
Oh and what's behind that little aluminium shielding above the passenger seat next to the beacon?
Good on ya mate!

Thanks for the comments. :D

I noticed today in the sun where the old FA3 was located you can see where an old 000 set of stickers was stuck.

The little block is an old (not working) visual tank level guide. Green, amber and red lights tell if the level in the tank is ¾, ½ or ¼ full.

Twas a private sale. The guy was a member of Parkerville BFB and had the appliance at home. It was on call from PBFB if they needed it.

Thanks for the complement... a few things to do yet - new light bars, standpipe and branch to come.

Hi There,

My first post on here but have been watching for a wile now...
I have been a member of the Parkerville BFB for about 4 years now. The Fast Attack looks great. It must of gone to some were else after Parky because we only have 1 FA, and it wouldn't of been numbered "FA3" when it was with us. Also I have never heard of it being available to us if we needed it, that must of been before my time. Anyway it looks good :D

Cheers Sam

The guy who sold it to me told me it was ex Wanneroo and ex Parky. I'm not going to doubt him. LOL

Anyway, she looks good for a 14 year old. Thanks for the complements. Just got an email today saying that the new Hilighter mini light bars have been sent by courier. :D:D:D

Not entirely sure it was a Wanneroo appliance either Wes. The ones of that vintage that they had were unleaded, not diesel..

Hilighters are awesome!
