Now if only SJA could the response from the public that that ambulance got, I doubt it would be very often that an SJA ambo could get to that speed purely because some noob would move into the ambulance lane...why? cause it's free [/unintentionalrant]

If stupidity got me into this mess, why can't it get me out.
I've had it happen to me, a road train moving off the road because I was screaming up behind them on a P1 back to hospital with traffic coming in the opposite direction. Now though we have a uhf cb to inform them we are behind and ask them nicely to slow down or pull over, or if it's safe for us to pass.

Go hard ... Or Go Home.
I'd move out the way if we were both doing 80KM/H and they were under emergency conditions...but I was getting at some people wouldn't care/notice. Then again, I'm always watching police cars, ambulances and fire trucks that are behind me, and preparing to move aside so that they can pass me if they light up and start wailing.

In the country all emergency services vehicles should have UHF CB for that purpose. In my former fire & rescue brigade we had it... would chat to the truckies on channel 40 to find out details of incidents (eg MVA's) before we got there.
Yeah when I was up North at first they didn't, but after the suggestion was put to the committee by myself to put UHF in them, it was passed and every vehicle needed it as standard.
