im new to scanners and i need a bit of help!! I live in the bush (in baldivis) and my house has a tin roof so i hardly get any signal for my scanner. So i was wondering if there was any way i could get better signal such as using a tv antenna or something??
Or, if not, then where could i get an aerial, and how much will it cost, etc.??
Hey fill, you can use ur tv antenna but the best thing u can do is get and antenna as high as possible to get over the trees and stuff. Iv got a tin roof and it makes no difference, iv also used my tin roof as an antenna!!! But yeah, dont know how much ur looking at, but my bandspanner set me back $30 bucks and then u got to by the base and all the rest of it...
the above screw-in plug on the motorola is similar or the same as GME uhf cb handhelds. Most comms specialist places can source the appropriate adapter. I have an Icom IC40s UHF handheld and it has an even more ellaborate screw-in plug with inner AND outer threads and there's an adapter available for about $50 from my local communications place to convert it to BNC. (not dick smiths)
I found an old Icom fitting/adapter in my drawer that screws in there, well the threads were......almost the same...and with some good australian bush mechanics the threads are now the same...so maybe look for an Icom screw to BNC fitting.
