jmmw,
Great to see someone that's keen. Are you already in SES, or are hoping to join? If you're wanting to join, I believe they train on a monday or tuesday night, give them a ring. If you go through to a paging service leave a message with the person that answers, or you may be redirected to the duty mobile number. They probably won't be able to give you a date, as our TO, and LM didn't know when the next induction was going to be held. (They're running all inductions now through state. I.E. On your induction course there may be 2 others going to melvielle, 3 going to stirling, 1 to swan and 2 to wanneroo.) You'll complete your training. With them, before going to your unit. Then all you need to do is try and get on as many courses as possible, the main ones being, Navigate in an Urban and Rural Environment (very worth while, just completed it); Operate Communications Systems and Equipment (Comms & Radios); Drive under operational conditions (Red & Blues [if you have them, ie. Cliffy units] or lights and sirens if you prefer); Work in an Emergency Operations Centre (more fun than you'd think); Maintain and Preserve a FESA incident scene (equivelant to firemodules 1-3) But if there's another course that comes up that you want to go on, then go for it! My first course was my Single Rope Techniques, great course if you love knots and ropework and abseiling.
Hope I didn't swamp you too much, the Melvielle Training Officer/Recruiting, will be able to tell you more.

Thanks for your information i am going to ring tomorrow when i have the morning off, i just want to make sure i know what im getting myself into, theres really no point in making a commitment unless know that im going to be able to stick by it

1800 628 141 is the recruiting number . I have been a member for 29 years and I can vouch that the training can be both interesting and intensely satisfying. Especially if you can think out of the box ie laterally.
The SES "community" tend to all be able to operate as a team no matter where they are and or what they do.
BUT like all things you need to put the effort in to get to get the maximum rewards .
Don't forget most of the SES Qualifications, and indeed most Fesa Qualifications are Nationally recognised and can often mean the difference when you apply for a job in the future. They have certainly helped me and my family.......

Mate I am sure you will enjoy it. GC101 is right though. There are some "SPECIAL" people in ses. I joined when I was 17 and I was a member for 9 years.jmmw wrote:After that encouragement i can make the announcement that i joined tonightGC101 wrote:i was in the SES for awhile, to many people on a power trip, thinking they are the shit, what pissed me off big time, as a volunteer im not putting up with that crap, so i left
Some of the people there will be mates for life but others can be an embaressment but at the end of the day they are all doing a good thing.
I have since left the ses but I had some awesome times that I will never forget.
enjoy...
