Can anyone shed some light on this?

Post by Donga »

If you seen a sign promoting a bikini car wash what minimum age would you expect the girls to be? If you then realised the fact that the girls were under that age what would you do about it? Today while driving along Joondalup drive I stumbled across a sign promoting just that, a bikini carwash. Now when I see the sign I automatically think the ladies would atleast be 18 and over. How wrong could I be? Very wrong in this case the two girls looked no older then 16. Becasue of the age of the girls I decided not to get the car cleaned and drove off. We then decided to call the police as we had a concern about the age of the girls doing the Bikini car wash to be told that they were not breaking the law nothing could be done about it. I am now confused I would have thought that to do anything adult orintated that you would need to be 18 or older. Can anyone please help she light into the issue.

I guess technically as they aren't naked, and they're above the minimum age to work - legally its allowed... but in the sense that the customers are pretty much perving on young girls as they wash their car.. thats bad. definitely in the the dark gray area in my view..

but having said that, i guess its also kinda like going to the beach.. you see girls of all ages in bikinis and all there.. but on the otherhand you dont pay them to do that, and the girls would probably slap you, or get the police involved for watching like you would at the car wash..

but i'd agree with the minimum age of 18 for that job.

There is a BIG difference to wearing bikinis to go to the beach or wearing bikinis as part of a uniform tho. Bikinis are a part of the beach culture for starters and is therefore excepted. Where as getting young girls to wear bikinis to attract older men so they can make more money to me is morrally wrong and I would have thought illegal as you are sexualising children.

Without knowing all the facts of the matter, I would have to agree with you Donga. The argument is not about wearing the bikini, it's about the environment and the perceived purpose of the bikini. If the girls were as young as you suggest then serious questions have to be raised about the nature of the "car wash". For example who authorised it, who was operating it, who was to benifit from it, and most importantly was there appropriate supervision??

As the father of two girls, i would be most concerned about such a 'fundraising activity', and certainly would not condone such an activity for girls under 18, regardless of their 'legal' status.

Auntys-eyes to shed some more light into the situation it was at one of those car washing places that are popping up everywhere. At it you can do everything to clean your car inside and out. If your slack or more to the point wise you will go throught the automated carwash or if you have money to burn and energetic you can wash your car yourself, or in the case of Saturday you could have got the two girls to wash you car in the manaul but expensive carwash.

Did you actually call the car wash place to complain or did you call the police straight away.
Do you know for a fact that these girls were under 18......

Good point. As you get older, what you consider to be 18-looking also gets older.

When seeing P platers drive, I'm forever thinking "shit, are they old enough?"..

It can also be the other way around these days... Sometimes I see girls on the train in school uniform who look 18-19 but in reality they are probably only in year 10 at school.

Sometimes I wish the chicken hormones they use these days were in existence when I was 15 :)
