Naming of cyclones
Naming of cyclones
I have always been under the impression that tropical cyclones are named alphabetically and consecutively. ie. Alan , Bob , Charles... u get the picture.
This is where i am puzzled...
.. We have just faced George in the North West and we are now being told to expect another cyclone in the next day or two, can anyone tell me why this new one is called Jacob?? and what happened to the `H` and the `I`?
This is where i am puzzled...

From my meagre understanding...
They are named consecutively. George was named (from Darwin CWC) then the cyclone warning centres in Brisbane and Darwin probably named two others (H and I) before Jacob was named by the Perth CWC.
Info on cyclone naming from BoM.

You are spot on with your meager understanding Wes.
That link has lots of great info on the whole cyclone naming process.
One other point. While filming at the Weather Bureau last week was told that in the far north, the resposibility between the Perth and Darwin TCWC's swaps at the 125th Longitude (?? the one that goes Nth/Sth
). See the map linked below.

heaps of different weather stations name cyclones if a cylcone is named in another area and comes our way we keep the name, however if it starts here and crooses thier boundry the change the name. I should go alphabetically and change gender lol with each cyclone also a name can be re used twice however if a cyclone kills someone that name is never used again
So the there will never be another cyclone george. So Mr G.
And just some boring shit, a guy from working for the BOM once named a cyclone after his wife, How romantic
