Whats a hose ramp ? and who would steal it you mean members of the public or "others"

Hose ramps are wood (possibly metal but I've not seen any) blocks made in several sections shaped like a wedge with a space in between to fit a hose. They are paired to allow vehicles to drive over them. When the hose is filled with water under pressure (aka "charged") they would burst by tyres of vehicles driving over them. Hose ramps work to prevent this from happening.

This image is not quite what is used in W.A. but will give you the general idea.

Who would steal them? Desperate Brigade members or morons in the general public. (And yes, I'm being polite!)

Dwellingup/Pinjarra Fire - Issued: Sunday, 4 February 2007 10:43 PM

Fire is threatening the town of Coolup, west of the South West Highway.

Coolup residents and residents of nearby areas are advised to activate their fire plan and if they choose to leave to do so early and report to Coolup Hall.

State Emergency Service personnel and Police are currently in the area notifying property owners south of Mills Road, north of Williamson Road and east of Mayfield and Brown roads.

The South West Highway has been closed at Pinjarra and traffic heading south is being diverted to Mandurah. Traffic heading north is being diverted onto Marriott Road west to Old Coast Road.

This fire is an escape from the bushfire that reached 3 km south-west of Dwellingup yesterday, and is being driven by strong south-easterly winds.

For more information call 1300 657 209.

They also have ses evacuating residents. Sounds like its getting rather bad. Its extremely windy in rocky so hate to see what its doing there

For those interested, the Minister for Emergency Services has declared a Bush Fire Emergency Period effective 3pm today.

Hasn't been one of these declared since I've been a firefighter..

(correction here).. last time this was declared was from 21 to 24 Feb 1994-1995 and before that, in 1978 during Cyclone Alby when 800-900 fires were going.

With Very High/Extreme fire danger meaning a total fire ban anyway, it really doesn't impact on residents that much I would think.. but it does mean the Minister can direct someone to take control of ANY fire, regardless of where it is.

More info at http://www.fesa.wa.gov.au/internet/uplo ... 71_map.pdf

Forgive me for being dense, but what exactly does that mean?

Metro firies "directed" to go (say) to a fire down south? What about volunteers who have day jobs?

edit: forgive me if I sound paranoid but have heard some rumors...
