in regards to distance also if ur more than 10mins away then u usually wont be able to go to much except mop up and with frs doesnt happen much also becuase they turnout punmo and light tanker then once they have a full crew they go with bfb some brigade have up to 10 vehicles or somethin u ther is always maybe a chance that u can go first turnout but bein in south perth doesnt give u many bfb options

That's really weird if only because Bassendean, Guildford and Maylands are all different local councils. Can't imagine how they're going to agree to cost share...philby wrote:FYI
Bassendean vols and guildford vols are going to be based at the same house. No timeline has been set yet or where they are going but the bassendean station is going to be sold off. i heard a rumor that bassendean career guys and girls might be going to maylands?
any one know anymore?

Just a few additions to the discussion.
FRS also do hazmat incidents.
Layflats can also be flaked if the situation arises.
All the volunteer FRS brigades do attend bushfires if the fires are in their gazetted fire district. The two brigades in which I have been associated have spent a large proportion (if not a majority) of their turnout times attending scrub fires.
A friend of mine who was a Captain in a VFRS Brigade has transferred to Perth and is unfortunately not near another VFRS. He's having a break then said he'll probably join the local SES.
VFRS is not covered by the shires like BFS is... it's all funded through the ESL and is under direct control of FESA (or so I am led to believe)

Yup. FRS Brigades, both Vol and Career are owned and operated by the State Government/FESA. Bushies are owned/operated by Local Government.
Can't see anything being moved into inner city like Maylands.. particularly Bassendean career guys.. would leave a big gap/hole out that way.
The vols certainly wouldnt be moved inner-city. As it is, they seldom get used because of all the career stations around them. There was rumour a long time ago about Guildford, Bassendean 2nd and West Swan BFS merging.. though no doubt all 3 brigades would've opposed that.
(I honestly would've thought they would've been closed down long ago - any BFS brigades would have been).

Guildford and Bassendean vols exist largely due to their continued participation in the Association and Competitions. They also pick up many community events and things such as fire protection for events (fireworks etc). Last I heard FESA were trying to put them out near Whiteman somewhere, of course there is a lot of resistance to this.
Bassendean 1st is in an important location, being close to Midland for much needed backup, I would imagine if they were going to make a significant move, it would be further in that direction, certainly not Maylands. There have been other talks about stations moving over that way, but not Bassendean. Enough Fire Services politics though.
One last note is that most FRS vol brigades attend Scrub/Bush fires as a majority of their incidents. Also, I don't believe that FRS/BFS are doing the same training across the board. There are certain courses which are offered to both, but there are also many which are particular to each service.

The new base training package for volunteers is now identical across the 2 services (being Intro to Fire and Bush Fire Fighting). Specialised training is based on your role and brigade profile - of course you wont see a BFB doing Hazmat training, however, the structural fire training, BA etc are now the same across the 2 services.kylep wrote:One last note is that most FRS vol brigades attend Scrub/Bush fires as a majority of their incidents.
