Convited policemane to keep his job. Views and opinions?

Post by Donga »

Todays I stumbled across this artcle here http://au.news.yahoo.com/061222/23/11v3o.html I am just wondering what everyones views and opinions are. This topic hopefully remains on track and I hope everyone is respectfull of what everyone has to say. Here is the first bit of the article :

A WA Police officer found guilty of punching a man at last year's Skyworks will not be sacked.
Constable Nathan Trenberth was stood down from operational duties after being convicted of unlawfully assaulting 20-year-old David Bailey in January.

Video footage showed the officer punching Skyworks partygoer David Bailey four times, as he tried to handcuff him.

As above, good decision and and its unfortunate that the court had to make that decision.

There are always two sides to a story.

Merry Christmas all!! :)

I guess its only fair that since I have asked for a response from members its only fair I express my views. The reason I asked was becase I am in two minds of the situation part of me agrees with what Walks is saying he was doing his job and should not be sacked but the other part of me looks at the fact that he should be setting an example to the community and from how it reads is he was charged and found guilty of assult and therefore should loose his job. Had it have been a security guard and did the same he would possibly loose his security license.

That officer is a bloody good cop. Nobody knows the full circumstances behind what happened. It did not look the best on the footage but how hard was the guy resisting.

The problem you face is that people see half of what is going on and they cast judgement.

The amount of times someone has been forcefully arrested and the bystanders see the end result of four cops wrestling and handcuffing someone then the bystanders yell abuse to the police. They dont see the person just punch the cop or say "dont f#@king touch me or I will kill you".

Whats the point of the police going in half arsed and getting injured, your taught to get control of the situation quickly, if that means going in hard and fast then so be it. I have had black eyes and bruised face from dicking around.

Also you may see 2 or 3 big cops arresting a much smaller person, ask any cop and they will tell you that size does not always matter, especially when someone is off their head on drugs. They can get incredible strength.

But all that said, dont get me wrong. If a police officer is out of line then they should be punished.
