Chase to swim

Post by JG-103 »

Hi everyone, last friday im pretty sure it was at bout 1500, there was a persuit on the midland channel, they were priority two when vki told them to abort as they were doing 120 in a 50 zone, so they aborted but insteaded of just slowing down and turning of the siren they stopped completely!!! I dunno why but they did, luckily enough they caught up with him at a school and the guy swam accross the river, one of the cops swam after him whilst his partner got a priority to go to the over side, they got k9 and all the rest but dont know if they caught him. Did anybody else hear this? G, is it in one of them news things you have been gettin? JG103 :P

The VKI Duty Inspector/SGT has the final call on pursuits.

120km/h in a 50km/h so is clearly in excess of the Priority 2 guidelines, which only entitles the driver to do 20km/h over the posted speed limit.

I guess it depends on the circumstances and who was pursuing the fleeing vehicle, and their vehicle class and whether or not the driver is a priority pursuit driver. Also gotta take into account the time of day.

Priority 2 DOES NOT entitle a driver to ENGAGE in pursuit just to follow.

Abort means stop: downgrade, sirens/lights off and return to the normal speed-limit, although most coppers obviously hate doing this.

I've heard a few of the VKI operators get quite sharp drivers who continue to 'follow' fleeing vehicles after being told to abort.

Sounds like a good call from VKI to abort.

Yep 3pm on a Friday would be a bad time to have a pursuit through suburbia with all the schools emptying around that time ...

Lol... That would've been interesting to hear!

Tom, I hear them go way over 20km/h above the speed limit in most 'Priority Two' Pursuits, but I can understand why they do as its usually late at night when traffic is minimal and the risk to all involved is much lower.

Yeah, i was suprised when they said they were doing 120 in a 50 too, i think the cops should still follow the car, but stay a far distance back so as to prevent/ stop the driver from taking risks, but stop completely, nah. It was a priority 2 driver, priority 2 vehicle.

Class 2 = unmarked car.

Interesting 120km/h in a 50km/h zome sounds a bit quick for a P2 rated driver.

Top call from VKI to abort.

JG-103, what's with your user name. Is that your favourite car??
