I did say several months ago that the XR8's were being looked at with the view to them joining the WAPOL Fleet and I said this before it was even a rumour in the passage ways and hallways of Police Buildings.

You might recall the thread where cars were described as 8 hour offices.

It was only after WAPOL got it's new budget on July 1st that the XR6 Turbo was decided on and several factors came into play in making the final decision.

The new basic XR6 Turbo has a 270kw motor while the basic Boss V8 is still 260kw, The Turbo is lighter (just shy of 200 kg's lighter) when compared to the Boss V8.

With constant increasing price of fuel, The V8 would be more expensive to run when compared to the Turbo 6 and this would be a greater ongoing expense.

Now what is interesting is that WAPOL has not purchased these cars, It will obtain these vehicles through the State Government Fleet Leasing Facility.

It has been suggested that the reason for this is: If there is a significant rise in damage and abuse to these cars they will be returned to the State Government Fleet for the raminder of their leasing life and WAPOL will return to the naturally aspirated engine and it won't be in the form of a V8.

I don't think we will be getting the F6 package. Also WAPOL has not bought vehicles for ages (loved the days of seeing all the new VN Commo's parked up outside weapons training at the maylands academy).

As for less fuel than a V8....mmmm....these cars will cop an absolute hiding from day one and we all know Fords are thirsty. Then again Chev is the only man I know to get over 20L per 100km for a shift in a Holden 6 ;) They do have a third gear fella!

Anyway, in all seriousness, it will be a faster car than what we currently have. Will it be a better car to drive....we will have to wait and see.

Oh I don't know Walks... I can think of a couple more people who can squeeze those lofty fuel figues out of a, say D7 or D9 patrol...

TE206 and TE212 are both fairly old now.

212 is still a VY!

Danny, are TEG still getting additional cars from other districts/Booze bus etc?..
