Same frequencies?
Is it just my scanner picking up the wrong waves or are some of the same channels also on different frequencies? last night i was listening to channel 12- 468.1250 and noticed it was ch16- 468.2250, i also found another channel but have forgotten it that was exactly the same as another, same person, same job details. So is is my scanner picking up the wrong waves or do some channels also on 2 frequencies?

Re: Same frequencies?
The police link some of their channels together to cover a greater area. Ch 2 and 8, 48,50,52 etc. Your scanner is working fineJG-103 wrote:Is it just my scanner picking up the wrong waves or are some of the same channels also on different frequencies? last night i was listening to channel 12- 468.1250 and noticed it was ch16- 468.2250, i also found another channel but have forgotten it that was exactly the same as another, same person, same job details. Same is heard on each of the 'Areas' channels/frequencies no matter which one you are listening to eg: If you tune into only the 3 Fremantle channels for experiments sake, flick through them as someone is speaking (ch12 to 16 to 47) and you will hear the same broadcast.. By the way all 3 enquiry channels are the same one person operating those also! Only one radio operator works for each district/area at any one given time. Im sure i'l be corrected if im wrong!
Where do repeaters come into this, are they the channels that are 'repeated' or are they the signal towers or something?

I cant remember, i think that the towers are the repeaters but i dont think they are called repeaters because they repeat the same channel on different frequencies because the fire brigade doesnt have the same channel on different frequencies, im pretty sure they are called repeaters because they transmit the message from tower to tower or something, where as with simplex you more or less rely on in sight. I can find out 4 sure but im sure ill be corrected anyway but i can still find out 4 sure. I would presume the fire brigades, ambulance and police use the same towers otherwise there would be towers every where, i know Hope Valley FRS has a map that shows all the repeaters in the metro area and tell you what channels they are and everything, me and chris are going to see if we can get a copy and post it in the fire forum.

CORRECTION
just found a definition, a repeater receives a signal on one frequency, then in real time transmits the received signal on another frequency. They are generally located atop tall buildings or mountains, where their signal will reach far further then a normal 'simplex' signal. Repeaters form the basis of most two-way radio systems.
But im quite sure the fire brigades dont have the same channel on different frequencies and we have repeaters

In Perth at least the emergency services don't seem to share sites. The police have several repeaters on the top of Central Park tower etc but neither SJA nor FESA have a spot there.JG-103 wrote:.
