Managed a couple of snaps of the Channel 9 - Gold Coast news link truck while driving through Surfers Paradise. In the first pic the 9 News crew car is in front.

It's happened many times, even here in Perth.

I used to drive the STW9 (channel 9 Perth) link truck which looks similar, just an older model landcruiser. One of the biggest things the boss drummed into you was to ALWAYS be aware of the clearance and NEVER raise the mast when under power lines, under any circumstances. If there are power lines, then you move to the other side of the road.

An embarrassed Channel 7 (TVW) van driver got caught under that bridge on Guildford road near Bayswater (you know the really really low bridge?) a couple of years back. It completely ripped the mast off the back of the van and pretty much did huge damage. For some reason the van was off the road for about a year, maybe longer. It took TVW ages to get it repaired. It was their main "link truck" as well, so they had to revert to using the smaller, less equipped ones for quite a while.

It seems to be an annual event at that location for some truck or other to get jammed underneath or to smash something off the top.
