A man has died at Kalgoorlie in Western Australia's goldfields region after being run over by a police car.
Police were chasing the man's car about 2:00am AWST when it veered off the road into bushland.
It is understood the man then jumped out of his car and tried to hide from police by lying on the ground.
He was then hit by the pursuing police car and later died.
Major crash police officers and internal investigators are at the scene.

Condolences to the family, and to the cops who were doing their duty. I hope this does not prevent them from doing their job in anyway in the future!

Drove past this scene this arvo but wasn't sure what was happening. The HWP was sitting in the scrub with its boot open and a heap of police tape around the area.

Yeah when I saw the article I knew you were definately in Kal, and wondered if you were involved with any of the investigation or anything.

Yes - this was shown on the evening news, albeit breifly.
(Interesting note, it's
not the first time this particular car has been in a bit of strife!)

Tar Brad...
Conflicting stories as to whether the one in that newspaper clipping was actually written off or repaired.
I was told it was fixed and then last week I was told it was w/off and replaced with another SV6..

No worries
My money would be on it being a new vehicle - the front-end damage as seen in the newspaper clipping would be way too severe to repair, not to mention I'd doubt the chassis integrity even after repairs had been undertaken.
Easier to get a new car and scrap the old one.
Also, if my memory serves me correctly, the lightbar on the vehicle as shown on the news was different to the one in the clipping... though it may just be my eyes playing tricks on me

hmmm, I don't mean to be cold hearted or anything but who thinks to lie on the grass in the path of a cop car?

The passenger who did a runner was reportedly was the same person who was a passenger in a fatal only a month or so prior down towards Mandurah. There was also some sad details about the drivers family but are only word of mouth so wont type on here.
OT

when I worked on a station on the WA/NT border some of the cattle used to hide in the long grass, if the chopper couldn't get them to move up by bumping them with his skid he used to lean out the side with a 22 hornet and well you get the rest
Oh and I'm not suggesting that was and option here either

just reminded me of that story.

haha .22 Hornets are crazy! they may as well be silenced. My mate has one as well as a .22 Magnum magnum sound is like the complete opposite to his pump action!
