Sounds right... it's called a "Dummy licence"... although you could be called a dumbie if you lost your licence.

Nah. That's an extraordinary license. Given to people who have lost their license, but have applied to the court for an extraordinary license, usually because they have to drive for work.

I think a dummy mdl is when a person who has not had a license is under fine supension they create a license number for them. When I was under fine supension for not paying a train fine at the time they had generated a license number for me despite the fact that I never had a lcense before.

in short, if you don't have a licence number in WA and there is a reason one needs to be created (i.e. interstate driver who cops a ticket from Danny  or as in Donga's case), then an MDL number is allocated and status is set to 'DUMMY'.

And so, taking this to the next step...

If I got given a dummy MDL number for some reason, and at some later stage I went and applied for a learners permit, I assume I'd be given that number that's already in the system against my name ...

I am going to say roger to that zeb because when I got my learners last year after paying my fine supension the MDL number was the same as the Dummy MDL
