Toodyay 2.4U
The massive dust storm we faced

Visibility got down to 20m
just a few pics of some of our sector..
We were pretty close to where the school teacher died
On the way there we were joined by South Coogee 2.4, Gosnells 2.4 and ended up as a a convoy- South Coogee hav got their 2.4 up to 135km/h
Kwinana Chief was our sector (Hotel) commander and jandakot and kwinana south lt 's were with us too.
We where all sayin when we got there how we had to pass 3 major fires just to get to Toodyay.
Control point was the Toodyay Fire Station.
Berverly 3.4 is South Coogee's old 3.4
Steak sandwhiches was our crib.
Had strong gusting winds of 50-60+ km/h winds, and being on the western sector, we copped all the dust.
Toodyay fire was 500+ hectares
Bout it...

I think its a good idea, they do mainly assist frs and stuff, least this way they will get call out more.
Id take a dual cab 2.4 over a 1.4 anyday

The rural appliances arent that much different, besides stowage.. I believe the pumps are fairly similar and rated around the same pressure.
Generally urban appliances only get given to brigades with a structural fire risk in their area, identified in their brigade profile.. hence my 'who did they shag' comment (as they dont have an area and are surrounded by FRS?).
As for 2.4 over 1.4, anyone would.. the $$$ are the big factor there though!
Speaking of the Toodyay Fire, our crews came across a TA on the way back to the control point the other day.. Truck vs Tree.

That was the very first HSR produced (HSR11) It's been rejigged since that one was produced. Storage space has been altered - BA storage changed, tool boards installed... Check
herefor details and
here for more pics of the new ones. Below are pics of the HSR prototype which Dampier has now.
Oh... there's three types of 2.4 available, for those who don't know.
2.4 Urban - 2000L, 4WD, structural firefighting capability
2.4 Rural - as above - no structural capability
2.4 Broadacre - as above but really simplified. (I was told basically it's for farmers who want a machine that works and without the "bells and whistles".)

Its good to see that the brigades that have been stuck with the old mazdas are finally getting a vehicle that is of some use. The new hsr is quite a nice appliance. I know that we would love to swap our old one with a new one.

Gotta ask too.. wtf was the driver in the 2.4 U thinking, getting it 'up to 135kph' ? Just plain dangerous.. and will get you a reckless driving charge if you get caught!

Maybe I need to put a thread on about the different appliances. What say you all?
2.4 B (Broadacre) of Middle Ward BFS, Plantagenet Shire.
2.4R (Rural) of Clackline/Muresk BFS, Northam Shire.
