Stupid NI-CD RECHARGABLE BATTERIES!!! Connect 240v to them!

Dose snyone know what would happen to a 1.2v NI-CD Battery if you connected it to 240 V ???

If you've somehow done this already, put in outside away from anything flammable etc, wouldn't put it in the bin or use it again especially if its hot.
