Is the PM exempt from road rules?

Just wondering if the Prime Minister is exempt in his vehicle from adhering to the road rules?

The main ones that tickle my bones is the going through stop signs and have the Statesman's fog lights on while driving. This is usually seen during the news of him leaving/arriving to places.

I can gather that if hes under attack from protesters (which is often the case I guess) if hes under police escort the stop signs thing isn't an issue? Or is his detail part of the AFP or something?

Not a rant just wondering (just got me thinking after the Today Tonight story on drivers getting booked for using there 'fog' lights) :)

That fog-light issue gives me the shits big-time. Generally one in every 10 cars I see usually on a Fri of Sat night has them on. I don't see the boys in blue targeting them.

Pisses me off coz when they come towards you on a single lane road they startle me and I have to squint.

The worst offenders are usually drivers of BA and BF XR Falcons.

I guess they just do it to attract attention to themselves.

Also the amount of people that drive with them on and people that intentionally damage/obscure/put white paint or purposely fade their front number-plates is on the increase also.

Come to think of it the amount of unroadworthy vehicles eg cars with blown front head-lights, faded or broken rear lights, bald tyres blah blah blah is also on the increase.

I won't even start on the road worthiness of TAXI's either they are abysmal, if I was a tourist to Perth I'd be horrified. I regular as clock-work see them at night with blown head-lights. I even sore one last week that had some home touch-up panel work on the rear bumper.

I'll keep my opinions of our 'beloved' PM to myself also....but I think we all think the same thing anyway...

I don't think Police put on their spotties to draw attention to themselves, but I do agree they are annoying when police have them on, while they are driving in the opposing direction

And as for the PM, well i'd prefer Howard over Beazley.........but that's my opinion you are obviously entitled to disagree

dave,

I didn't say I saw Police driving with them on.

I was referring to members of the public not coppers driving with them on.

But I see and agree with the point yorky is making here.

I know what you mean Tom about the TAXI's in Perth.I used to work for a towing company. Our main work was TAXIS.Every night we used to get calls from TAXI drivers wanting a tow because this had broken or that had broken. Not once but twice it was the same TAXI that had called the night before.I tell you what it makes you think twice about hoping into a TAXI in Perth. It used to drive some of our drivers nuts having to pick-up the same TAXI all the time.

not realy related to original post, but the taxi part it does... they piss me off at servos when they decide to wash their whole car and spend ten minutes after they have put the pump back to use all the paper towel in the dispnser to clean / dry it... If i was a servo, I'd start charging for the amount of paper towel they go through... Just my 10c worth...
