i can't be 100% sure, but they always seem to, though on the very few occasions that i have called the police, i have requested that my name is not broadcasted

I am guessing it would depend on circumstances. I know if the complainent went to court as a wittness they may have there full detials read out in court as I said tho even that depends on the circumstances eg the type of crime.

The guy is alledged to have broken into a car, but denies it. Can the cops then say well 2 people at such such a business say they saw u?

They would use there descretion by just saying they have 2 wittnesses who say otherwise.

so is there some kind of privacy law that prevents the police from saying what business the complainent is from or only for giving out their name???

I guess in this situation it would come down to discretion of the persons involved. Could they have just said 2 witnesses....yes.....is there something illegal in saying " We have two witnesses that saw you do it from *******"....I doubt it.

Do you or your boss have a right to be annoyed about it...Yes. I would take it up with the attending vehicles OIC if you wish.
