oh yeah, for those who criticise our pictures, why would we take a slr camera or a proper camera there for taking pictures when we are being called there to do a job, most of the time in a situation like that,if ur in a heavy or a LT ur usually doing something and the only time we get to take pics is if wer waiting for soemthign or filling up the vehicles, were not paparzzi and im sure i speak to all of us who posted pics in this thread,we just wanted for everyone to see what that fire was like...no to make photographic pictures.

Ahhh!

Not us buddy! All of my crew was clear from dropzone. I'll think you'll find it was a member from Oakford 3.4, Who about 40 seconds prior to 605 becoming inbound coped the full load from the other fixed wing.

Why don't you have gloves on in the photo of you with the layflat, Millsy? :P

Gees, touchy. It was some constructive feedback. Just to help you out. If you have enough time to pull out a mobile phoen, you have enough time to grab a small digital from the cab or out of a pocket. For those saying that 5megapixels is good, yes, but the lens is ordinary, as well as some other processing issues.
Many brigades now carry a camera in their main appliance, so when someone does get a chance, they can capture some history for the brigade. I've been to big fires where you work your butt off and have no spare time or energy, but I've been on others patrolling a sector and could have snapped pics all day if I had my camera.

Yep - a good lens is VERY important... ask my digital photography students!

If it can't fit in my pocket then it's too big for the fire ground and SES if you suddenly need to put it away and do something I want to stuff it in my pocket close the velcro and do it. You put it down on the back while you wind in hose you'll forget and lose it.
Glad I'm not the only one that thought Millsy wasn't wearing any gloves. Thought I might have been mistaken until then.

Hey guys,
Nice Photos, Looks like it is hot over there and you are being kept very busy! I am in NZ at the moment, and there have been a few fires over here too. I have taken lots of photos of the water bombers they use down here. There were 9 heli tacks at a fire I drove past the other day. I will upload pics in a few weeks when I get back.
Has there been many fires up in the hills? I left my pager at home. Not that it would work over here?
I know someone who takes there digital camera in a little tupperware container, works very well and is kept dry.

gday sam hope your enjoying your time over there.

to put it simply, there are fires everywhere atm.
everyday crews seem to be busy on one or two large fires in the metro or outer suburbs.

very busy time.

chris, aint no point water marking your pics where you have, they can still be pilfed and resized so as to get rid of your watermark, allowing people to still claim your pics as their own.

easy

This is why it can be a good idea to make it a discreet mark, so that your credit remains with the image, rather than being ugly enough that people want ot gone. Of course, there's no way to stop people ripping your photos off, but by trying to keep a credit with it, and by limiting the resolution (unfortunately), you can limit the theft.

By the way, have started adding some additional images to wafire.fotopic.net. I will continue to add them as I cleanup my storage at home, so many to go through...
