That's why I asked you :P $20 upgrade, even if it gets me just the rest of the time that I had left is ok...but then I'd need to change my callsign anyway so that it matches for a standard call rather than an F or Advanced call.

Nah the upgrade fee is $42 ... I meant for an extra $20 you get a whole new callsign with a full year to run, and you can then either keep your F-call for old time's sake, or just let it expire when it's 12 months runs out like I did.

ahhh so in essentially I'm going to be forced into paying the $62 because I'll need to get another call.

Nobody's forcing you ;-) Apply for the std licence a couple of weeks before the F-call expires. The F will still be valid so long as you stick to the licence conditions.

So, another Foundation course half way complete - seven participants this time around. Despite a few technical difficulties with the radio equipment in the shack (looks like a dicky microphone was the culprit), everyone's had a play on 2m and 10m, plus been sent to sleep by my delivery of PowerPoint slides ;)

Hopefully the weather will be kind tomorrow, it's a pain when the rain starts just before we're due a tea break! :P

Hehehe...it's a pain when the rain starts just as we want to light a grass paddock and scare a few people, while having some fun!!!

Feedback from one of your participants is that it's a good course and he's enjoying it :) And he agrees you have a saint at the other end of the HF rig

Well, another course out of the way and everyone came back for Day 2 so we didn't frighten anyone off ;)

All the participants did very well today - the pre-and-post-course tests showed that on the whole, the level of knowledge had made a significant jump.

Three participants who were going to be away for the exam day next weekend completed their written and practical assessments after the end of the course and I'm pleased to report that all three did very well and passed. So you can expect another three new F-calls on air in the next four to six weeks.

I'll tell you what though, after not doing any training for five or so years, I started off a little rusty, and I'd forgotten how tiring it is! But, it's very rewarding and I wouldn't have it any other way. :P

It's fun, we promise :)

And professionally, it could also help - after all, pilots are required to use radios, so why not add it as (yet another) hobby, and maybe also pick up some technical understanding of how all the radio gadgets and gizmos work! :P
