Been listening briefly, shocking comms on ch3 VKI...
I agree - not a good channel to be using in a Real Full-Scale Emergency thats for sure...

One advantage of being home sick is being able to listen to stuff like this :-)

Ok, I've found one slight problem with their preparations. The ICV - Explorer Control just told 6AR the fireground channel was to be 97 (simplex), then a short time later they came back and said the channel is to be channel 38... fair enough.

The ICV then said if they need to be contacted it will have to be via mobile phone (!). Why doesn't the ICV have dual radios? If they're really training for a disaster could they make the same assumption about the mobile phone network still operating...?

Just heard on Channel 3 guys - that they have lost Radio Communications with the Police Command Post in the City - This could be the reason why they sounded so scratchy and broken when transmitting....so this is abit embaressing trying to transmit during a Full Scale Emergency Training ex....

FESA's comms seem to be heaps better than VKI on the Excercise - Not much being said - but here is the freq - 78.512 - Channel 38 (FESA)

38 is 78.5125Mhz. Doubt its going to work very well in the city - thats the area repeater for Kalamunda, Gosnells, Roleystone Bushfire brigades..

Is it at all possible this is more a desktop exercise all in Forrestfield? FESA regularly runs exercises without actually moving the appliances from where they are doing it. More an exercise in command, control and co-ordination than actually physically DOING something.

(the doing is usually the easy bit)

Could have been, but the units on ch38 didn't have crash-hot signals...

VHF portables. Note the news articles said it was a simulation of a building collapse in the CBD... didnt say that it *was* being run in the CBD. At the FESA Forrestfield Academy they have all the scenarios set up for confined space rescue, building collapse etc..

Also, if they were going to run an incident remote from the scene, wouldn't they utilise the Police comms facility in Midland instead of sticking it all somewhere thats a training facility only? :)

If its still going, they are probably playing on simplex or 'local' frequencies down at Forrestfield. The exercise wasnt actually in the city.. (if you saw the news last night).

The whole exercise was based at the FESA Forrestfield Training Academy - footage was shown on the news last night with the Premier and Police Commissioner.

You cant always believe what you hear - particularly with a training exercise - it is exactly just that! And when you think about it, they were never going to get away with blocking off roads in the CBD for 3 days.. :D
