Sweet, ill take a look at it :).

Just a question, i thought it was illegal to distribute WAPOL Communications without consent from WAPOL themselves? Is this true?

My understanding (and i will stand corrected if i'm off the mark) is that;

a, it is not an offence to own a scanner,

b, it is not an offence to posess a scanner,

c, it is not an offence to operate a scanner,

but it is an offence to 'act upon' any information recieved by a scanner.

I assume that would include recording and re-broadcasting such information. Can any of our Wapol members confirm??

Think you'd find that'd be a federal offence if anything auntys_eyes, as it would like be covered under the Telecommunications Act..

(or am I wrong?)

Here ya go. Part of the Moderators FAQ section

1. ARE SCANNERS LEGAL?

In Australia, it is legal to own and operate a radio scanner and no licence is required.

Generally speaking and to the best of our knowledge, It is also legal to listen to most frequencies. The most notable exception are any frequencies that are used for telecommunications, such as mobile phones, cordless phones, ship-to-shore seaphones, etc. It is illegal to listen to any frequency used for telecommunications in Australia. (Federal Telecommunications act)

Mostly due to copyright it is also illegal to rebroadcast transmissions received on a scanner without the appropriate authority.

Finally, obviously, it is also illegal to use your scanner in any attempt to commit a crime.

IMPORTANT NOTE: No-one in the WA Radio Scanner Users Group is a lawyer and as such, this information should not be taken as legal advice. The information is given in good faith, as best we understand it. If you intend on using this information, please take the time to verify it with your local law enforcement agency first.

Must admit, not my audio. Truckie PM'd the link and I put it on the site. I asked about the banner - yep, pretty much just a bloke he clearly thinks is a dickhead.

Oh, HM-106 - probably illegal but so is streaming the audio. I actually think it is good for the general public to know what a tough job it is and this sort of thing promotes that. WAPOL would be crazy to chase this sort of thing down.

All good, i just wanted to know the legality myself aswell. Not trying to point out its wrong, wanted to clarify the ruling on these sort of things.

Your not in trouble heheh :P.
