Fire Weather

Re: Fire Weather
It's gotta be really pumping and within range and the plume has to be above the terrain enough to get seen, but I've found that you can see fire plumes on the doppler radars in particular. Especially interesting if you watch a plume as the wind changes.

Re: Fire Weather
Again this weekend looks very bad with wind etc. I am sure that something is bound to happen. I just hope that everyone keeps their angle grinders away....
Re: Fire Weather
Is there any lightning around at the moment? The hills looks like it has some tight cells up there
Re: Fire Weather
Looks like a line of lightning heading straight for perth metro, it's about 150 km north west of perth and getting quite active as it gets closer.

Re: Fire Weather
I've been watching that also, I think its going to start tracking south and probably cross the coast around Mandurah... unless it fizzes out...

Re: Fire Weather
Fdi and fdr upgraded from vh to severe. Fdi went from 44 this morning to 54
Re: Fire Weather
the fdi for the pines and jarrah forest must be right up there then!
Re: Fire Weather
Are there different fdis for pine? I thought it was just the Mk5 Forest FDI and the grassland FDI?
Re: Fire Weather
Yeah pine has a different rating and the fire danger rating for the jarrah forest would very rarely go below very high during summer. I've often thought the fire danger rating boards up in the hills should read off the jarrah forest fire danger rating not the grass fire danger rating.

Re: Fire Weather
The GFDI is actually higher than the FDI. It all pretty well depends on the winds. Look at tomorrow when you have a high temp, but low wind conditions. When you get into the mathematics, equations, SDI, DI, etc you will understand the relationship between the two. There is a lot of information out there if your willing to chase it down.
Re: Fire Weather
Don't worry guys today is only a low to moderate fire danger rating according to the BOM... even though its going to be 39 and dry as dry...
Unrelated to the FDI there is the chance for a lot of lightning coming down, there has been a line from Jurien Bay to Leinster since last night blasting out a HEAP of zappers so we might get some late afternoon.

Re: Fire Weather
We can all take the day off given the FDI. No need for alarm....................newbie wrote:Don't worry guys today is only a low to moderate fire danger rating according to the BOM... even though its going to be 39 and dry as dry...
